Book Week 2024: Bookmarks, Badges, T-Shirts and Tote bags
The CBCA Children’s Book Week is one of the biggest events in the Australian school library calendar. A perfect opportunity to celebrate Australian children’s literature and the work of school library staff and everything they do to support reading.
The theme for 2024 is Reading is Magic. It’s a great theme with lots of scope for amazing display, poster and promotional product ideas.
You can (and should) purchase merchandise with the official CBCA Book Week artwork from the CBCA store, and download the free official artwork resources from the CBCA website. As well as purchasing these products and using the free resources provided by CBCA, I like create my own designs for students to get creating in the library space and make their own bookmarks, badges, t-shirts, and book bag totes.
Bookmarks
Bookmarks are eternally popular in my school library. Any new designs I put in front of students get grabbed quickly. It’s like they want a set of them all. And I am happy to encourage anything related to reading. So, I have created a set of Reading Is Magic bookmarks. I print these on cardboard to share them with students. Download the PDF here.
Badges
We love making badges in our school library. Here are three badge templates to try. They print on an A4 piece of paper and work well for a 44mm badge template. Download the PDF Template. If you need them bigger or smaller, simply use these individual images on a word document.

T-shirts and book bag totes
Thanks to our amazingly creative and enthusiastic Junior staff, creating Book Week t-shirts for the staff has become tradition in our school. Staff bring in their own t-shirts for us to add the design. We also run lunchtime activities where students can create their own t-shirts and tote bags. I purchase plain tote bags from Spotlight. The basic cotton bags are cheap and make the perfect base for HTV designs.
