New Book Releases for July 2015

July 2015 seems to be a slow month for new book releases, at least for the books in which I am interested or have read advanced copies.  Click on the covers for detailed reviews.

Young Adult

The Fixer The Fixer – Jennifer Lynn Barnes – Bloomsbury Children’s – Published 7 July 2015

When sixteen-year-old Tess Kendrick is sent to live with her older sister, Ivy, she has no idea that the infamous Ivy Kendrick is Washington D.C.’s #1 “fixer,” known for making politicians’ scandals go away for a price. No sooner does Tess enroll at Hardwicke Academy than she unwittingly follows in her sister’s footsteps and becomes D.C.’s premier high school fixer, solving problems for elite teens.

Young adult fiction: Mystery and suspense.

Jesse's Girl

Jesse’s Girl – Miranda Kenneally – Sourcebooks Fire – Published 7 July 2015

Maya is pretty surprised when her school principal offers to have her shadow Jesse Scott – famous, successful teen country star – on career day. She is even more surprised when she meets him beforehand and finds him to be rude, arrogant and totally gorgeous (well, maybe that part wasn’t so surprising).

This is classic Miranda Kenneally all over – the same great, catchy writing style and the same loveable and spunky  characters.

Young adult fiction: Contemporary.

Christian Fiction

The Wonder of You The Wonder of You – Susan May Warren – Thomas Nelson – Published 1 July 2015

I love Susan May Warren’s books.  The Wonder of You did not disappoint. Roark St. John has returned to the town of Deep Haven determined to recapture the heart of Amelia Christiansen, the heart he broke during their time in Europe. But regaining her trust won’t be easy, especially with the home-town competition of lumberjack Seth. Roark will have to exchange his Ferrari and expensive French cuisine for a chainsaw and s’mores if he has any chance of proving to Amelia that she is the girl for him.

Christian fiction: Contemporary.

Love on A Deadline

Love on a Deadline – Kathryn Springer – Zondervan – Published 28 July 2015

Love On A Deadline confirms Kathryn Springer’s ability to write loveable characters in charming settings, all tied up with a writing style that flows beautifully and makes for an enjoyable read. Mac has returned to Red Leaf to care for her ailing father. Working as a journalist for the local newspaper, she is frustrated to be handed social events to cover instead of the serious stories she longs to investigate. Her latest task is to report on the upcoming wedding of returning local Hollis Channing who is marrying her celebrity fiancé. The only problem is that Mac has plenty of history with Hollis and her brother, Ethan Channing, and not much of it is anything Mac wants to relive any time soon.

Christian fiction: Contemporary.
