There are a few new school library related books hitting shelves. 

Creating an Australian School Literacy Policy by Margaret K. Merga. 

Creating a School Library with Impact – A Beginner’s Guide by Caroline Roche, Barbara Band, Nick Cavender, Lucy Chambers, Sarah Pavey, Annie Everall, Ellen Krajewski. 

If you are a member of a state or national school library organisation, don’t forget to check if you can access ebooks and journals via your membership. 

Awards

ALIA Professional Pathways: School Libraries Research Project, investigating the qualifications, recognition and professional development for Australian school library employees. 

ASLA are calling for nominations for the 2023 ASLA Awards, including Teacher Librarian, Early Career Teacher Librarian and Library Advocate. More details here. Who could you nominate?

The School Library Association of South Australia have four different awards that are currently open. Nominations close December 15 2022, so get your nominations in now.

AASL’s National School Library of the Year Award is also open, with the deadline for this award on the 1st of January.  I have to say, the cash prize for this award is pretty amazing. Open to AASL members only. 

AASL also have a large range of awards and grants open now, so check them out and find one that fits you.

If you are in the UK, SLA have a range of awards open for nominations right now. Many close mid December or mid January.

The IFLA also have awards open for nominations. These close February 2023

ALIA have shared the School Libraries Support the Sustainable Development Goals. Created by Natasha Lee, I was fortunate to have an early peek inside this incredible resource. With helpful tips on how to action each of the goals within your school library, as well as resources and links, this is an awesome resource. 

If you are starting a new position or just want to level up your skills, you might want to check out The Digital Librarian’s Survival Toolkit created by Awesome School Librarians (seriously, they are awesome).

If you are creating an annual report for your school library, why not take inspiration from the incredible 2022 School Library Annual Report put together and shared by Anne Weaver.
