Can You See Me is a beautiful picture book that introduces perspective to young readers, as well as conveying a lovely message about fitting into a big world full of small worlds.

The artwork is stunning and works perfectly to convey the concept of size and perspective. Photographs, mixed media and collage work together. There might be a photograph of a building net to a drawing of a orangutang. Zooming in and out on consecutive pages is used to great effect. I love how you might assume an illustration is one thing, but zooming out on the next page reveals something else entirely.

The illustrations also incorporate arrow, facts and comments. These bring humour and encourage the reader to look closer, I love how these are then carried across pages and we get a closer look, thanks to the closeups. There are also a few facts shared, like the height off the Eiffel Tower.

There is a genuine sense of warmth and humour in this book, adventure and delicious descriptions. “A flea jumping in an orange forest”. It gently encourages the reader to look closely at the world around them and explore. There are some marvellous facts included, like how much ants can carry and how quickly caterpillars grow and again humour is used to highly these facts, positioning the read right in the story. Marked you with an arrow and text.
