Synopsis
When Aris Haan brought down Safara’s biggest war criminal, she’d thought it was a turning point in the war. Victory was on the horizon, as was a peaceful future with her Promised, Milek.
But a deadly new threat has emerged: a Safaran bomb that could wipe out all of Atalanta in one catastrophic blast. Aris is tasked with finding the weapon before it is completed, a mission made more difficult when she starts to suspect that there is a Safaran spy in her unit. Friendships are tested, loyalties are strained, and suddenly Aris no longer knows whom she can trust.
My thoughts
I’ve been eagerly awaiting this book and it was totally worth the wait. It is a brilliant, edge-of-your-seat, action-packed, swoon-worthy conclusion to the Rebel Wing trilogy.
I didn’t mean to start reading this book, I had another one I needed to read first, but then I opened it up to just take a peak at the first page and before I knew it I was a couple chapters in. Needless to say, that other book hasn’t been read yet.
War is taking its toll on Aris and her friends. Ensuring Elom’s capture hasn’t secured them the peace they all long for. With intel about a new weapon capable of huge destruction, Aris and Milek are placed in charge of securing its retrieval. But when their missions continually go awry and the Atalanta bases are attacked they realise they have a spy in their midst.
It is a pleasure to return to the wonderful world we first found in Rebel Wing. Aris is back, as is Milek (yay!), along with all the familiar faces from the first two books. It was surprisingly easy to lose myself in Torn Sky, as it was to rejoin Aris and all her fighting colleagues. These characters are all so vivid they have stuck in my mind, which made delving back into the continuing story both delightful and wonderfully easy. If you haven’t yet read Rebel Wing or Storm Fall, I suggest you do before starting Torn Sky, as they form part of a continuous storyline. Action, sweet romance, war, comradery and high-flying sci-fi adventure. It is a series well worth reading.
Torn Sky really was the perfect end to this trilogy. I was a little concerned about how much would fall apart in this book, but I needn’t have worried. Yes, there are twists and nail-biting developments, battle, heartbreak and a bit of torture for good measure, but I love that Aris and Milek are a solid unit throughout both this book and the whole series. I love that there is so much happening that there is no need for unnecessary relationship drama. I love that we also get to see Dysis’ relationship develop. I don’t think it’s spoilerish to say it’s a great ending, both happy and a little sad, most especially because this is the last we will see of Aris, Milek, Dysis, Calix and the rest. The wonderfully creative world in which they reside, the beautiful moments between friends, the action and battle tactics, and the romance are all so enjoyable. Swoon. I love the kisses, the relationships. I would put Aris and Milek up there with Yelana and Valek (Study series by Maria V Snyder) as some of my favourite book couples. Big words, I know, but Milek and Aris make an absolutely gorgeous couple, both capable and strong in their own right and so very good together. Dysis’ romance was just a bonus in this book.
Torn Sky, as with the other books in this series, has been well written and was an absolute pleasure to read.
