Synopsis

This second edition of Buzz Books: Young Adult Spring provides substantial pre-publication excerpts from 26 forthcoming young adult and middle grade books. Now everyone can share the same access to the newest YA voices the publishing industry is broadcasting for the spring/summer season.

Excerpts include new work from established giants of the field (Michael Buckley Sarah Dessen, David Levithan, Barry Lyga, and Carrie Ryan), an author best-known for her adult books (Alice Hoffman), and newsmakers including Paige McKenzie’s The Haunting Of Sunshine Girl, based on the hit YouTube series, and An Ember In the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir (already sold to Paramount Pictures in a major deal).

My thoughts

This is almost less of a review of this particular book and more of a look at some of the exciting upcoming releases in young adult fiction.

This book contains excepts from 26 upcoming YA and MG books. Exciting to say the least. Here are some quick synopsises of the ones that particularly caught my eye.

The Wrath and the Dawn – Renee Ahdieh – Putnam Juvenile – 15 May 2015
Retelling of 1001 nights. Interesting take, with character volunteering to be the prince’s nightly conquest and subsequent execution sacrifice come morning. But she has a plan to execute some revenge of her own. The prologue promises a lot more twists in the story and leaves the reader very intrigued to discover what’s going on.

A School For Unusual Girls – Kathleen Baldwin – For Teen – 19 May 2015
Sounds like the Mary Quinn series. Interesting. 1814. A school where parents send their daughters in a last ditch effort to turn them into refined, tea-pouring ladies. Instead, thus school is a training ground for spies.

99 Days – Katie Cotugno – Balzer+Bray – 1 April 2015
I’ve already had the pleasure of reading this one. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it, but it certainly was un-put-down-able and very interesting. My full review can be found here.

Saint Anything – Sarah Dessen – Viking – 5 May 2015
It’s Sarah Dessen. Need I say more. Actually, this one sounds really great. Romance. A quirky, but totally loveable family.

Magonia – Maria Dahvana Headley – HarperCollins – 28 April 2015
I’ve also already read this, which I really enjoyed once I made it past the first 50 or so pages. Flying she, bird people, romance and saving the world. Full review here

Nowhere But Here – Katie McGarry – Harlequin Teen – 26 May 2015
Anything of Katie McGarry’s goes straight on my to-be-read list, and this excerpt sounds great. Can’t wait.

The publishers provided a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
