Book Week 2019 – Reading is my Secret Power Display 2

The theme for Book Week 2019 is Reading Is My Secret Power. In conjunction with our circulation desk display and our Junior reading room display, I created this interactive display at the back of our Junior reading room.

Here it is before we added the student artwork.

Using old books that had been weeded from the collection, a student helper cut out the pages and stuck them together with tape to create panels, which I used to cover the wall. It makes a really lovely tactile wall covering, though the students were a bit concerned about where I got the pages. The plan is to reuse this backdrop for another display once Book Week is over.

The lettering was cut on our library Cricut machine using the American Captain and Beautiful Thang fonts.

We asked students to tell us what their secret power is or what secret power they would love to have. They wrote about and illustrated these on spare bunting triangles and callout shapes, which we then added to the display.
