Genrefication is the process of organising or classifying items into genres or categories. It is a powerful, flexible and user-driven way of organising your school library. I use the term genrefication to refer to grouping fiction, non-fiction and special collections by categories that are standard (like fiction genres) or unique to my school library (like the categories I have selected for my school's non-fiction collections.)

Genrefication involves more than just the process of sorting books into their new classifications, it involves updating signage and catalogue records, improving reader advisory processes, marketing and promotion of collections and ensuring how you display your books is user-friendly.
