Activity – Literary Photo Booth

Our students love photo booths. They love taking photos with our library iPad, creating mini scenes and using book-themed props, especially when they are dressed up for Book Week or another special event. Previously I have used just a plain backdrop – either a roll of paper or a plastic tablecloth – but for Book Week 2019, I wanted to make a photo booth out of a fridge box, all with a literary theme.

Display: National Careers Week

Display – National Careers Week

National Careers Week is celebrated in Australia in the second week of May. This year our school has a new Careers Guidance Counsellor (who is awesome) and she approached me about celebrating National Careers Week in the library. What a fantastic opportunity to connect literature and the skills we learn in the library to the workforce and students’ futures. Working together, we created a range of displays and activities to engage the students, from Junior right through to Senior, in discussing careers.

Display: Mr Potato Head Interactive Display and World’s Greatest Shave

Interactive Display – Mr Potato Head and World’s Greatest Shave

Each March, our school participates in the World’s Greatest Shave to raise funds to fight cancer. It has become a school-wide celebration, with free-dress day, crazy hair day, sausage sizzles, bake stands, and of course the hair shaving. To promote these events and become more involved, the library posted this Mr Potato Head display in the week leading up to Shave Day. It has been one of our most popular displays to date (just shy of the Blind Date With a Book display).
