Book Week 2022: Announcing Australian School Library Day

I am super excited that the Wednesday of Book Week 2022, the 24th of August 2022, has been named Australian School Library Day. The Students Need School Libraries campaign, in partnership with the CBCA, have worked to make this day just another feature of the Book Week calendar.

Book Week 2022 runs from August 20-26, with the 24th fitting nicely into the week of celebrations.

Australian School Library Day is the perfect day to celebrate school libraries and the work they do to support Australian students, Australian literature and Australian authors, illustrators, publishers and creators. Book Week and Australian School Library Day go hand-in-hand.

To celebrate, the Students Need School Libraries campaign are asking libraries, schools, booksellers, publishers, media outlets and the wider community to highlight and share what they love about school libraries. Maybe it’s the events school libraries host, the guest authors and illustrators that come to visit school libraries. Maybe it’s the Book Week celebrations, parades and competitions. Maybe it’s the collections, physical and digital that open the world of literature to our young readers. Or maybe it’s the school library staff, who share that love of reading, who teach the importance of digital literacy and cybersafety, who guide students in research and information literacy, who help teachers and resource their schools. Whatever it is you love about school libraries, there is something to celebrate.

You’ll find heaps of ideas for how to mark the day on the Students Need School Libraries website and you’ll also find plenty of resources, including social media graphics and posters.
