BILBY Awards – Display and Student Voting
Each year, the Queensland branch of the CBCA runs the BILBY Awards, where students can nominate and then vote for their favourite book of the year. It is a fantastic opportunity for students to see what other readers in their local area are enjoying, as well as voicing their reading preferences.
I have created a display promoting the BILBY Awards, and the books that have been short listed. I used the posters provided from the CBCA QLD website, which has a huge range of downloadable resources.
I created voting slips from the provided bookmark downloads. The students are using these both to mark their favourite books, as well as to mark which books they have read and which books that have yet to read. The turn over of books from the display is very high.
Now that they display has been up for a week, I have updated the votes collected so far and created a simple chart to display the students’ votes. I will compile the students’ votes and submit them to the QLD CBCA before voting closes on the 15th of September.
If you are outside of the Queensland area, you could still use this idea and create your own favourite book of the year award and voting period within the school community.
