Book Week 2017 Escape to Everywhere Display and Bunting

This display is a work in progress. So far, I have added the wording, bunting, a tree made from book leaves, vines and a lighthouse. There are some key words in the clouds (escape, explore, adventure, freedom, retreat) and giant flowers, which our students made in the makerspace under the guidance of one of our very clever librarians. The inspiration for this display comes from a combination of the image from the Alice in Wonderland movie posters and the Pinkalicious books by Victoria Kann.

Wording

The font KG Luck of the Irish was used to make the Escape to Everywhere lettering.

Book Leaves, Tree and Vines

The tree was drawn onto the window using gold window chalk. The leaves were made from old book pages, coloured green with a highlighter, traced with a black marker and cut. The vines were made with green tissue paper, rolled and scrunched with heart-shaped leaves attached with staples.

Bunting

Our school was recently gifted some some amazing fabric swatches from a local fabric distributor, Millhouse Collections.  The fabric is absolutely gorgeous.  One pattern collection in particular, Greatest Adventure from Riley Blake Designs, was a perfect match for this year’s Book Week theme and colours.

I decided to make Book Week Bunting to add to the Book Week displays. We cut triangles using pinking shears and sewed them to light-blue ribbon.

The triangles were 18cm across the top and 25cm long.
