Three Australian YA Books With Gorgeous Covers

9781742978307 The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl – Melissa Keil – Hardie Grant Egmont – Published September 2014

Alba loves her life just as it is. She loves living behind the bakery, and waking up in a cloud of sugar and cinnamon. She loves drawing comics and watching bad TV with her friends.

The only problem is she’s overlooked a few teeny details: Like, the guy she thought long gone has unexpectedly reappeared. And the boy who has been her best friend since forever has suddenly gone off the rails. And even her latest comic-book creation is misbehaving.

Also, the world might be ending – which is proving to be awkward.

Isn’t that cover just so pretty? I love it. And the story is just as awesome. The many references to freshly baked bread and cakes probably helped build the love (and the hunger). It took me a little while to get into the swing of this story, but once I did I really enjoyed it.

Becoming Aurora – Elizabeth Kasmer – University of Queensland Press – Published 19 September 2016

Sixteen-year-old Rory is at a crossroads in her life. While her gang plans its next move in a racially motivated turf war, Rory is sentenced to spend her summer at an aged care facility. She’s proud of taking the rap for a crime her gang committed and reading to a feisty old boxing champion isn’t going to change that.

But what happens when Rory’s path intersects with migrant boxer Essam’s and she becomes the victim, not the perpetrator?

A beautiful cover for a beautiful book. Becoming Aurora is a wonderfully told story of a young girl’s journey from a place of hatred and misunderstanding to friendship, acceptance, and choosing to become who she would rather be.

Silvermay – James Moloney – HarperCollins Australia – Published June 2011

Sixteen-year-old Silvermay Hawker feels drawn to the newcomer in her village—a young man of solemn good looks named Tamlyn. But only heartache can come of this, because Tamlyn is devoted to Nerigold and to little Lucien, her son.

So things seem, until the dark forces of Coyle Strongbow come in search of Nerigold′s baby and Silvermay is swept up in the young family′s escape. When Lucien is entrusted to her care, she discovers the startling horror of what he might become, and the truth about Tamlyn, too.

An adventure-filled and romantic fantasy, Silvermay is greatly deserving of that gorgeous cover. The other books in the Silvermay series also have amazing covers.
